
Locomotion Movements
Technique
- Start in standing position, feet hip width apart
- Move into crouched position with both hands flat on the floor
- Jump feet back at the same time to press up position
- Lower body until chest and hips make contact with the floor
- Jump feet back in together while returning body back to the crouch position
- Stand up straight, with body fully extended
- Jump and extend arms fully above head
Common Faults
- Not hitting full extension when standing up
- Chest and hips not making contact with the floor
- Moving one leg at a time
- Not jumping
- Not fully extending body and arms above head when jumping
Corrections
- Demonstrate the correct movement
- Give verbal coaching cues of the correct technique
- Stand up straight, shoulders back
- Move both legs at the same time
- Chest and hips need to make contact with the floor
- Jump up straight
- Raise arms above head
- If child is fatigued, resulting in poor technique, allow the child to rest or slow down until the movement can be executed with correct technique
