Manipulation Movements
Technique
- Stand with feet hip width apart, with pipe on chest, elbows in front, back straight
- Start squat by moving hips backwards
- Lower bottom below knee level, with weight in heels, knees tracking toes and back remaining straight
- In one fluid movement, pull head back, extend legs, driving hips forward and push pipe up in straight path, fully extending arms above head
- Put head through the gap created by arms to complete movement
- Return pipe to chest, keeping legs straight, through same straight pipe path moving head back to accommodate the pipe
Common Faults
- Rounded back
- Dropping head and chest
- Completing movement on toes
- Knees buckling in
- Hips not reaching below knee level (could be range of movement issue)
- Moving bar forward and around the head in a circular motion
- Not pushing head through window at top
- Not fully extending arms and legs at the top of the movement
- Not returning to the starting position before squatting again
- Completing a front squat and then a chest to overhead (i.e. not one fluid movement)
Corrections
