
Locomotion Movements
Technique
- Arms at right angle at elbow
- Head should be high, facing forwards
- Drive alternate arms, wrist going from hip to shoulder as opposite knee is lifted
- High knees reaching waist height
- Back straight
- Move the opposite arm and leg at the same time
Common Faults
- Stamping feet
- Knees not reaching waist height
- Moving same arm and leg at the same time
- Head not high facing forwards
Corrections
- Demonstrate the correct movement
- Give verbal coaching cues of the correct technique
- Opposite arm, opposite leg
- Keep arms bent at right angle
- Head up
- Lift knees high
- If child is fatigued, resulting in poor technique, allow the child to rest or slow down until the movement can be executed with correct technique
