
Manipulation Movements
Technique
- Stand with feet hip width apart
- Head up, chest up, holding the med ball at the side and slightly underneath with open palms, keeping med ball against chest, keeping back straight
- Pull head back and push med ball up in a straight path, fully extending arms above head
- Put head through the gap created by arms to complete movement
- Return med ball to chest, keeping legs straight, through same straight path, moving head back to accommodate the med ball
Common Faults
- Moving med ball forward and around the head in a circular motion
- Not pushing head through the gap between arms to complete movement
- Rounding back at the shoulders
- Leaning forward, arching back
- Not fully extending at the top of the movement
- Holding arms around med ball
Corrections
- Demonstrate the correct movement
- Give verbal coaching cues of the correct technique
- Med ball moves straight up and down
- Med ball makes contact with chest
- Push head forward
- If child is fatigued, resulting in poor technique, allow the child to rest or slow down until the movement can be executed with correct technique
