
Manipulation Movements
Technique
- Begin standing in neutral position, feet side by side
- Head up, chest up, holding the med ball at the sides and slightly underneath with open palms, keeping med ball against chest
- Step one foot straight back and drop knee until it touches the floor
- Maintain 90 degrees angle at both knees, keep heel of front foot in contact with floor
- Stand back up fully, shoulders back, feet side by side
- Repeat with alternating legs, remaining on the spot
Common Faults
- Step too small or too big to not reach 90 degrees angle
- Legs too wide or crossed over
- Knee of lead leg moves in front of toes
- Not hitting full extension when standing up
- Lifting heel on front foot
- Holding around the med ball
Corrections
- Demonstrate the correct movement
- Give verbal coaching cues of the correct technique
- Step bigger/smaller
- Keep legs hip width apart
- Stand up with shoulders back
- Elbows pointing towards ground
- If child is fatigued, resulting in poor technique, allow the child to rest or slow down until the movement can be executed with correct technique
