Stability Movements
Technique
- Start in press up position: with one hand placed on top of the med ball
- The arm on top of the med ball bent at the elbow. Other arm fully extended, fingers pointing forwards, wrist under shoulder, body raised off floor, legs extended fully behind, straight back, head in line with back
- Bend elbows keeping them close to the side of the body, lowering body to full range of movement
- Push back up, extending arms, raising body back up to the starting position
- Alternate arms one after the other
Common Faults
- Arching back resulting in hips going too high or low
- Elbows moving away from the body when lowering or raising
- Not touching the floor with chest and hips or not at the same time
- Arms not fully extending at the top
Corrections
- Demonstrate the correct movement
- Give verbal coaching cues of the correct technique
- Keep back straight
- Chest and hips as low as possible
- If child is fatigued, resulting in poor technique, allow the child to rest or slow down until the movement can be executed with correct technique
